OH&S Changes in Alberta

 June 1, 2018 sees the roll-out of the first overhaul of the OH&S code in Alberta in over 40 years. Along with the mandatory addition of Health and Safety Committees or Representatives, we at Harmony Training & Development are especially happy to see Section 27 of the code expanded to include harassment, including bullying and sexual harassment, and domestic and sexual violence added to workplace violence definitions. Legislative Changes

 January 1, 2018, the Alberta Government adopted The Fair and Family-friendly Workplace Act that mandates up to 10 days of job-protected, unpaid, leave per year for those experiencing domestic violence.  It could be to deal with personal injury, to seek counselling, to move, or any reason the employee relates to abuse at home.   Let us know if we can help: Clarify what domestic abuse entails;  offer advice on how to support those reporting abusive situations...
